I am not at all interested in prom but Aisha was so excited about it, her enthusiasm contagious as she talked about dresses, songs, and all the little details. She'd been planning it for weeks, her eyes sparkling whenever she mentioned it, as if the night held some kind of magic. I tried to brush it off, but seeing her so excited made me wonder if maybe I was missing something—something beyond the dancing and the glitz. As the date drew closer, I found myself wondering if the prom might not be as bad as I thought, especially with Aisha so eager to make the night unforgettable. But I have no intentions of going to the prom—I didn’t even have a dress, and I was perfectly content staying at home, buried in my assignments. I wasn’t one for the glitz and glam. But then, Aisha showed up at my door unexpectedly, her excitement spilling over as she practically begged me to come to the prom. “You have to come,” she insisted, her eyes shining with that familiar, infectious energy. “It won’t be the same without you.” I could see how much it meant to her, and despite my reluctance, a small part of me wondered if maybe, just maybe, this was something worth stepping out of my comfort zone for.
I didn’t want to upset Aisha, so I reluctantly agreed. We both went shopping, picking out dresses, accessories, and everything we needed. I chose a dress that was a deep blue, its elegance leaving me speechless. For a moment, I almost talked myself out of it—if I wore it, I’d look like a completely different person, and I liked blending into the background, unnoticed. But Aisha insisted, her smile so convincing, that I ended up buying it.The night of the prom arrived, and while I wasn’t having the most fun, I didn’t want to spoil Aisha’s mood. She was glowing, so happy to be there, and I could see how much this meant to her. As we entered the venue, all eyes were on us, whispers filling the air. I couldn’t help but feel out of place in the spotlight, but Aisha’s excitement was infectious, and I knew I couldn’t let her down now
I wasn’t feeling comfortable in the party, the noise and the crowd weighing heavily on me. I just needed some fresh air, so I slipped out of the venue and into the garden. The moonlight was gentle, casting a serene glow over the space, and the cool breeze made everything feel peaceful. I sat down on a nearby bench, leaning against it, listening to the soft music drifting from inside. For a moment, I thought to myself, this is more comfortable than being in that party.Just then, I noticed a figure approaching. It was a boy, walking slowly towards me. As he got closer, he smiled and said, “Mind if I join you?” I nodded, a little surprised, and he sat down beside me. “I’m Aditya,” he introduced himself, his voice calm and friendly. His face under the moonlight looked softer, the shadows accentuating the sharpness of his features, but it was his eyes that held my attention. They gleamed with a warmth that felt almost magnetic, as if the cool night air couldn't touch the warmth radiating from him. There was something about him, something I couldn’t quite place, yet it made my heart beat a little faster, a strange pull I couldn’t ignore. The moonlight kissed his skin, and my eyes blinked, desperate to capture the moment before it vanished.
It’s a bit crowded in there, isn’t it?”he said Yeah, it’s too much. I needed a break... some space to breathe, I guess.” The calm is... peaceful. .”“I didn’t expect to run into anyone out here.”I wasn’t planning to be out here either. Just needed a little escape“But I’m glad I did. You seem... different out here ” he said it with the smiling face .Different? I’m just... trying to get away from all the attention.”i said I know the feeling. Sometimes, I wish I could just disappear into the background. But here, under the moonlight... it’s like no one’s watching. It’s just us.”His words felt like I was just talking with myself, as if he understood every thought and feeling I hadn’t spoken aloud. It was strange, almost unsettling, how effortlessly he seemed to mirror my emotions, like he could see right through the layers I kept hidden from the world.
The sudden ring of my phone broke the serene moment, its loud noise startling me. It was Aisha. I had completely forgotten she was still at the party. As I picked up the call, her voice erupted through the speaker, frantic and filled with worry.“Where are you? I’ve been searching everywhere! Why won’t you answer my messages?” she demanded.froze for a moment, guilt creeping in as her words sunk in. I glanced at Aditya, who was sitting quietly, his gaze steady, as if he was waiting for me to say something. There was an unspoken question in his eyes I mumbled, “I need to go,” holding the phone in one hand as I stood up from the bench. As I turned to leave, Aditya gently shifted, reaching out and giving me a small, polite wave. “Goodbye,” he said softly, his voice carrying a warmth that lingered in the cool night air.I nodded, returning the wave with a faint smile, then turned away, walking further and further from him. With each step, I felt an inexplicable weight pressing on me, as though I was leaving behind more than just a fleeting conversation. But I didn’t dare look back, afraid of what I might feel if I saw his face one last time under the moonlight.
It was a completely different night compared to all others. For the first time in a long while, I felt... good, like I had met someone who truly understood me, someone who mirrored parts of myself I didn’t even realize I was hiding. But after that night at the party, I never saw Aditya again.
